The nights are still long enough to spend time watching films and looking up recently published, or recently found, photographic books. My favourite 'browse' is The PhotoBookStore, they have a vast selection and the site is easy to access and really well presented. One book I purchased was Day Sleeper, published by Mack. In this book Sam Contis presents a new window onto the work of the iconic American photographer Dorothea Lange. Drawing from Lange’s extensive archive at the Oakland Museum of California, Contis constructs a fragmented, unfamiliar side to Lange's work. It's a fascinating selection of one artists' work by another and the overall feel is an essential longing and a humanity of grace.
