TARANG BHARTI

My artistic practice is centered on site-specific projects that examine the dynamic relationship between humans and nature—both physically and metaphysically—while exploring the fleeting, multi-layered nature of aesthetic experience. Spanning the physical, perceptual, and experiential, my work navigates the spaces in between, embracing impermanence as an integral theme.

Photography serves as my primary medium, yet I approach it experimentally, intervening in its processes and materials. I manipulate film, prints, and chemical treatments, incorporating chance, decay, and transformation as essential elements of image-making. By modifying existing cameras and designing my own, I challenge conventional methods of capturing and perceiving images, expanding the boundaries of what photography can be. Through these explorations, my work engages with the tension between the
mechanical and the organic, the controlled and the unpredictable, ultimately seeking to evoke the experiential.

If given the opportunity to participate in the North Atlantic Islands Residency, I aim to explore the ever-shifting dialogue between the sea and the horizon—two elements thatcontinuously merge and divide in an endless, fluid embrace. Through a conceptual photographic inquiry, I will examine how this interplay shapes our perception of distance, possibility, and belonging. How does the meeting of water and sky influence our understanding of space, time, and self? By delving into this silent conversation between the knownand the unknown, the tangible and the infinite, I seek to invite reflection on our relationship with the natural world and its boundless edges. I envision developing this body of workfor exhibition in 2026.

The prospect of spending these weeks alongside artists from diverse disciplines and young innovators fills me with a deep sense of excitement and anticipation. This immersiveenvironment offers a rare and invaluable space for creative exchange, where ideas can flow freely, intertwine, and evolve in response to the residency’s guiding theme: to knowthe world we live in. It is within this convergence of perspectives—where artistic inquiry meets innovation—that our thoughts and creative expressions will be both nurtured andchallenged.

Beyond my own practice and medium, I seek a sense of community shaped by rich and critical discourse—one that extends beyond familiar territories and into the unknown. In thissetting, surrounded by minds eager to explore, deconstruct, and reimagine, I see the potential for meaningful collaborations and profound artistic growth—an experience that willresonate far beyond the residency itself.
